Andrew J. Stamelman

Partner

In dual roles as the head of Riker Danzig's tax and corporate practice groups, Andrew Stamelman builds close relationships with his clients. He represents many closely held, often family-owned, middle-market businesses who turn to him for a wide variety of legal counsel as their primary lawyer. Clients in these businesses frequently turn to him for family-related tax, trusts and estates work as well.

Because many of these middle-market companies do not have in-house counsel, Andy and his colleagues often work directly with CEOs and CFOs. "Everything we do is based on understanding the clients' business objectives and finding the most effective and efficient way to achieve those objectives," says Andy.

Andy is active in many non-profit organizations and has recently finished a 3 year term as President of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest, and is a member of the American Bar Association and the New Jersey Bar Association’s taxation and corporate law sections. He has lectured on a variety of subjects before professional associations of attorneys, accountants and insurance advisors, including the New Jersey Society of CPA’s, the Fairleigh Dickinson Tax Institute, and Inc. Magazine’s National Family Business Conference. Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers Client’s Guide has consistently singled Andy out for his corporate and tax work, ranking him among the leading lawyers in the state for his “impressive palate of corporate experience” and describing him as a “quintessential tax attorney." Clients have described him as a "great listener with a sophisticated style and practical perspective" and "highly valued" by clients who "don't make a move without consulting him first." He also has been named among the top tax, corporate and M&A lawyers in New Jersey by Best Lawyers in America® and Law & Politics magazine’s "Super Lawyers."

Andy's practice focuses largely on providing tax advice for businesses and individuals, trusts and estates work, and general corporate law, including structuring of business entities and acquisition and sale of business interests.

In 2003, Andy handled a complex business disposition for Public Service Electric & Gas, orchestrating the sale of 11 PSEG business units in nine transactions. He also was involved in the sale of the New Jersey Nets to a consortium of New Jersey business owners in 1998. His ongoing clients include Vitaquest International, LLC, Natural Organics, LLC, Porky Products Inc. and Ecko Unlimited.
