Heidi Hansen is counsel in Riker Danzig’s Tax and Trusts & Estates Group. Heidi returned to the firm after working for four years in the Office of Chief Counsel at the Internal Revenue Service, where she handled all aspects of Tax Court cases including discovery, trial and settlement negotiations. She provided advice and assistance to the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney’s Office in tax cases filed in District Courts and the Court of Claims. In addition, Heidi provided legal advice to Internal Revenue Service agents and officers on a broad range of topics such as collection procedures and the applicability of tax provisions to specific taxpayers.
Heidi practices in the area of estate planning and administration, where she handles daily client contact regarding individual estate plans, trusts, charitable planning and general tax advice. In addition to individual estate planning, she counsels charitable organizations on all aspects of their existence including formation, obtaining federal and State tax-exempt status, preparation of tax returns, providing advice on permissible activities and dissolution.
While pursuing her law degree, Heidi was Associate Editor of the Rutgers Computer and Technology Law Journal. She performed pro bono work for the Rutgers Federal Tax Clinic, was designated a Myerson Scholar and served as a Legal Intern for the Internal Revenue Service District Counsel's Office in New York City.
