Laurie J. Sands is counsel in the Firm’s Environmental Group, and has focused her legal career on environmental law issues. She represents clients in environmental litigation, including claims under CERCLA, RCRA, the Water Pollution Control Act and the New Jersey Spill Act. Laurie also routinely counsels clients with respect to regulatory compliance and in the negotiation of settlements for clean-up costs associated with environmental sites and natural resource damages.
Laurie serves as Director and Secretary of the Environmental Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Chair of the New Jersey Environmental Law Forum and Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association’s Admiralty and Maritime Committee. She is a former Barrister of the Justice Stewart G. Pollock Environmental Inn of Court.
Prior to beginning her legal career, Laurie spent six years at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection where she assisted that agency with issues related to stormwater and sewage causing pollution in New Jersey’s coastal communities. Her work there resulted in the development of the Sewage Infrastructure Improvement Act, a program aimed at addressing this coastal pollution.
