Since joining Riker Danzig out of law school, Mike has compiled an impressive record with his own legal achievements and his extensive bar-related and community work.
Since 2005, Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers Client's Guide has ranked Mike among New Jersey's leading employment lawyers for his "strong litigation experience," "commercial outlook" and for keeping "the interests of his clients close to heart." Chambers says he is a "superb New Jersey counsel - he knows the courts, the opposing counsel and the judges, and combines this knowledge and expertise with a highly practical approach." Law & Politics magazine has named him one of New Jersey's "Super Lawyers" and one of the top 100 lawyers in the State for his work in business-related litigation.
Mike has a diverse practice which includes both employment and commercial litigation components in federal and state courts. He regularly performs employment-related trial work and counseling for clients on discrimination, whistleblower, contract, etc. claims and issues. He has represented a Fortune 100 retailer and Sun Chemical Corp. in class-action lawsuits in New Jersey, including one case where he argued the class certification issue before the New Jersey Supreme Court. He also maintains an extensive commercial-litigation practice, often being involved in disputes relating to partnerships, the sale of businesses, trade secrets, and restrictive covenants. His practice, while primarily New Jersey oriented, has also taken him to other states to argue cases and counsel clients. He is chair of the firm’s labor and employment group. His clients include IBM Corp., CIGNA Corp., A.M. Best & Co., Dow Jones & Co., and Sun Chemical, and many closely held companies.
The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants has retained Mike to prepare and file friend of court briefs on important professional issues before the New Jersey Supreme Court and other appellate courts. He has extensive appellate experience, having argued on many occasions before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the Third Circuit.
In 2010, Mike was named "Lawyer of the Year" by the Morris County Bar Association. The award recognizes Mike's contribution to the legal profession through service to his clients and the community.
His reputation within New Jersey’s legal profession is further demonstrated by his being named to serve on the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Oversight Committee where he is the Chair and his membership on the Lawyers Advisory Committee for the New Jersey federal district court.
Mike makes time for pro bono legal work and community activities as well. In one of his volunteer cases, which went to the New Jersey Supreme Court, he successfully obtained the release of a Nigerian citizen who had been incarcerated for more than four years on a civil contempt charge. He also served as President and Chair of the New Jersey Ballet, and on the Board of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
